Boston, Mass -- Mitt Romney and his campaign said they remain confident about their prospects in November despite President Obama's surge in the polls this week, with advisers arguing the presumptive GOP nominee will be in a better position than the president after the conventions.

Senior adviser Eric Fehrnstrom brushed off a recent string of national polls showing the president's lead over Romney has widened, and told reporters at a briefing at the Republican's Boston campaign headquarters Friday not to put too much faith in a single set of polls.

"It's the middle of summer. It's the doldrums. It's the middle of the Olympics," the senior adviser said during a Power Point presentation. "There's not been any national news, anything that would push these numbers from minus three to minus nine points," Fehrnstrom explained. "I just don't think people are paying that much attention to the race" he continued.
